Nothing spells “critical darling” with gaming enthusiasts like old-school graphics with a modern twist, and puzzles based on bending the rules of reality. Look at Minecraft for the former qualifier, Portal for the latter, or Braid for both. The latest indie game to woo gaming critics is Fez, a game currently only available on the Xbox 360. You can now download it on Xbox Live.
Fez takes a trick from the Wii sleeper hit Super Paper Mario and takes it a step further, with shifts between 2D and 3D perspectives setting the stage for some pretty interesting puzzles. The Metacritic reviews are glowing.
The game currently costs 800 Xbox Live points, which amounts to 10 real-world U.S. dollars. Have a look at the game’s minimalistic trailer below to determine if it’s up your alley.
