Move along, there’s nothing to see here yet, says Rockstar Games; PC action gaming classic Max Payne was supposed to hit the Google Play store for Android smartphones and tablets yesterday, but the game publisher confirmed today that it has been delayed. It will actually come out about a week late.
Max Payne is a 3D action game played in the third person perspective, and it made history way back in the day for introducing the “bullet time” mechanic — slow motion shooting ala The Matrix. It also apes every film noir cliché in a film geek’s archives — on purpose of course.
When a fan asked when the Android version is coming, Rockstar Games tweeted yesterday that, “Max Payne Mobile will be released for Android very soon, in the next week or so.”
The iOS version (iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch) of Max Payne is already on the Apple App Store. It’s currently sitting at a 75 out of 100 on Metacritic, so critics seem to think it has aged well.
