The official trailer for the upcoming iPhone and iPad RPG Infinity Blade Dungeons is now online, along with clips of the gameplay. The game’s teaser trailer was used at the launch of the new iPad 3 to demonstrate the tablet’s impressive image quality and screen resolution. Suffice to say, the visuals are pretty darn good.
Infinity Blade Dungeons is a prequel to the Infinity Blade series from Epic Games and Chair Entertainment. The gameplay in the trailer shows a marked departure from the other entries in the franchise. Rather than one-on-one combat, the player has a top-down view of the third-person action. Between that change and the fantasy element, comparisons to the recently-released Diablo III are inevitable.
The prequel uses the famed Unreal engine for graphics — the same as is used by both previous Infinity Blade games. It’s the engine powering many high-profile console games, such as BioWare’s Mass Effect 3 and Epic’s Gears of War 3. If game developers continue to bring the best in graphic quality to the iPhone and iPad, the iOS platform stands a chance of converting more hard-core PC gamers.
Epic Games released an update for Infinity Blade II earlier this year to take full advantage of the new iPad’s Retina display. The prequel will only available on Apple devices.
