Angry Birds Space catapults past 100 million downloads

Rovio announced that Angry Birds Space exceeded 100 million downloads in just 76 days. The addictive game of pig-smashing has been smashing plenty of milestones as well, reaching 10 million downloads after just three days on the market.

It’s not just the latest space-themed take of the game that’s been wildly successful. According to Rovio’s Peter Vesterbacka, all the titles in the franchise have generated more than 1 billion downloads combined. And lest you think it was all early buzz, he noted that half of those billion came in just the last six months.

The series that you’ve probably come to know and love on your smartphones and tablets is also coming to a new webgame later this month. In May, Rovio announced that it was working on Angry Bird Heikki, a new game themed around car racing with a tie-in to Formula 1 racing driver Heikki Kovalainen. The company hasn’t leaked many details about the new title yet, but the odds look good that it’ll be another winner.
