Video: Conan O’Brien plays Minecraft, is hilariously unimpressed

Talk show host Conan O’Brien is not a gamer — he makes that clear at the outset — but he’s willing to brave the one game his fans almost unanimously demanded he try: Minecraft. The segment aired on TV last night, and his staff uploaded the hilariously inept video of his blocky, pixelated adventures to the web earlier today.

A friend walks Conan through the game, doing his best to explain its brilliant addictive gathering-and-building gameplay and its randomly generated worlds, all the while repeatedly assuring Conan that it is in fact quite popular. In response Conan berates the graphics and complains that his character avatar is wearing a kilt.

It’s all in good humor, of course, and it’s great for fans of the game to see it get some television airtime. For those of us who don’t actually watch television on television, though, the video is embedded below.

I really wanted a short closing clip of Conan in a dark room, hands glued to the controller, staring at a blocky palace he’d built while muttering, “Must…keep…building…”

    Alas.
