Video: Jimmy Fallon resurrects The Doors, covers “Reading Rainbow”

Late night comedian Jimmy Fallon started his network TV career doing musical imitations, but today’s viral video marks the first time we can remember seeingn him take on the role of The Doors frontman Jim Morrisson. The fact that he’s performing a fictional cover of the Reading Rainbow theme song that just about convinces us it was originally written and performed by The Doors makes the video a classic.

Fallon previously made a stir on the web with his imitation of singer-songwriter Neil Young covering Will Smith’s Fresh Prince of Bel Air theme and Willow Smith’s Whip My Hair. He also served up the history of hip hop alongside pop star Justin Timberlake and slow-jammed the news with President Barack Obama and The Roots.

Check out the video below; it’s a clip from his talk show Late Night, which he inherited from Conan O’Brien, who himself inherited it from David Letterman. The video’s a worthy addition to the Late Night lexicon.

To make it all the sweeter, we’ve embedded a live performance of Jim Morrison so you can see just how spot-on Fallon’s impression is, plus the original Reading Rainbow theme song.
