Myst is one of the great classic computer game adventures, but does it stand the test of time? You can determine that for yourself by downloading realMyst for the iPad on Apple’s App Store. realMyst is an adaptation for Myst for the iPad, but it’s actually based on the fully 3D PC remake of the same name, which lets you actually freely walk around the environment and look in any direction you want.
The app is only available for the iPad 2 and the new iPad (the one with a Retina display), so first-generation iPad owners are out of luck. On the plus side, owners of the new iPad will be pleased to hear that realMyst is Retina-ready; that makes this the highest-resolution version of Myst ever. And if you have an iPhone but not an iPad, you can just get the original, not-quite-so-real version of Myst separately for that platform.
Fans who’ve reviewed the game on the App Store have great things to say about the games, but they have some minor gripes. For example, the text from the original game is still present, so it’s grainy and hasn’t scaled well, and the game stutters a little bit here and there. Still, it’s hard to argue with Myst on the iPad. If you decide to check it out, let us know what you think in the comments.
