The Killers are back: Listen to “Runaways” from the new album

After a 4-year hiatus, The Killers are returning with a new album this September, and the first single was just released on the web through YouTube. The song is called “Runaways,” and you can listen to it below.

It’s got a strong American rock vibe — we see hear hints of Bruce Springsteen throughout, and even a little Tom Petty in the opening build-up. These sweeping choruses are what The Killers have built their careers on — if they’re your thing, you won’t be at all disappointed.

The band took a break in 2008 after its third album Day & Age. Frontman Brandon Flowers took the opportunity to release a solo album called Flamingo which gathered some generally positive reviews but which didn’t totally blow up in sales. Now the band is hoping to strike back with Battle Born, the fourth album. It’s due to be released on September 17.

Then the world will judge. But for now, you can judge just this one song. It won’t convert any new believers, but The Killers faithful will definitely be pleased.

I’m not sure I dig it. :( I was sort of hoping for another theme, but this is yet another song about teenagers and they are too old to be talking about teenagers now.
