Comedy talk show host Conan O’Brien has a new, web-exclusive series that’s more similar to the PBS series Charlie Rose than it is to The Tonight Show. The series is titled Serious Jibber-Jibber, and in it, Conan carries out extended interviews with important people about serious issues. This really isn’t a joke!
The first episode just premiered at Conan’s website, teamcoco.com. Conan spends 45 minutes interviewing presidential biographer Edmund Morris. In the show, Conan describes these serious interviews as his “dream job.” The show even mimics Charlie Rose’s black backdrop set, which the show’s announcer makes a joke about at the outset.
While there’s certainly some humor, it’s a very candid interview. It’s along the lines of the interviews Jon Stewart does with his important political guests in that he lightens the mood with jokes a lot, but the subject matter is no less serious for it.
Unfortunately, Serious Jibber-Jabber doesn’t look like it will be on a regular schedule. The show’s introduction says that Conan will do more interviews “whenever time and fate will allow.”
The video embed is below, but like all of Team Coco’s hilarious first-time gamer videos (like the Skyrim one and the Minecraft one, for example, it requires Adobe Flash, so it may not work on most mobile devices. Let us know what you think. Is this a welcome use of Conan’s talents?
