The Killers today released their first album in 4 years — Battle Born — and you can download it on iTunes or Amazon MP3, or stream it on Spotify or Rdio. The links are all below.
It’s a heavily Americana-inspired gauntlet of one uplifting anthem after another, with a strong Bruce Springsteen vibe. Compare it side-by-side with Springsteen’s 2002 album The Rising and you’ll see what we mean.
A few weeks ago, the first single Runaways was released on the web and garnered some positive reactions. If you liked that song, you’ll like the rest of the album. As is standard with The Killers, critics have responded positively but not too emphatically; it’s currently sitting at a 70 on Metacritic, which is about 5 points higher than all of the band’s previous albums.
And if you’re in the mood for something delightfully weird, check out the streaming mini-documentary about The Killers directed by esteemed German documentary filmmaker Werner Herzog, hosted on YouTube (and embedded below) courtesy of Rolling Stone magazine and American Express. If you’ve ever watched a Herzog film before, you know what you’re in for. If not, it’s worth giving it a shot!
