Is Angry Birds game-maker Rovio planning a Star Wars spin-off of the popular mobile game? It looks like that’s a very real possibility, as the official Angry Birds Twitter handle just tweeted a link to this Tumblr blog that features only the above animated GIF as content, calling it “the next big thing.”
The gif displays an angry bird (you can just barely see it in the shadows) wearing a Jedi robe and activating a lightsaber. Since there’s no other context, this could be any number of things besides a game. We think the most likely is a set of Star Wars-themed Angry Birds Space levels. But since the Tumblr says the launch event will take place on the Times Square Toys R Us, it could just be a line of toys. We doubt that one, though.
We’ll find out when the New York City event takes place on October 8. In the meantime, the 100 million of you who’ve downloaded Angry Birds Space can destroy stuff in the numerous free content updates that have already hit the game.
