Welcome to The Interactive, a property of Whither Media, LLC. We believe that electronic privacy is important for all digital properties, and we understand that you are concerned about your personal privacy online.
This is the privacy policy for The Interactive. It describes what information we (The Interactive and Whither Media, LLC) collect about you and how we use it. Your use of The Interactive indicates that you have read this privacy policy and that you understand it.
The information we collect automatically
When you visit this service (The Interactive), we may automatically collect data, including your location, your IP address, the device and web browser with which you are accessing the service, browser language, and information about your entry path from other websites, click data that shows which pages you chose to view and from where, your time spent on pages, your use of social tools such as the Facebook Like button and the Twitter Tweet button, and your exit point. This automatically collected information does not include your real name, your contact information, or your physical address.
We use this data to inform our decisions about which content to produce and feature, and where on the site we promote it. We may also share this data with current and potential advertisers and partners.
We do not share your individual information with these advertisers or partners; we only share data that reflects many visitors in aggregate. Examples include but are not limited to: the total number of visitors to the service within a certain timeframe, the average number of pages visitors view, or the percentage of visitors using a specific web browser.
The information you volunteer
In addition to data that is collected automatically, we sometimes have access to personal data that you choose to share with us by authenticating with third-party social and portable ID services such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Open ID, LinkedIn, Disqus, AddThis, MailChimp, Pinterest, Tumblr, Reddit, StumbleUpon, or others.
When you share links from this site, sign in to leave comments, or subscribe to email or social media updates, among other actions, you may be giving us access to personal information those third parties store. We have given our best reasonable effort to ensure that it is clear when you are opting to do this.
Information we have access to in this manner depends on what information you have given to the third-party in question, and on what of that information the third-party chooses to share with us through its services or API.
We will never share information collected in this manner with any other party.
We do not collect personal data from children under 13
The Children’s Online Privacy and Protection Act (“COPPA”) requires web properties to get parents’ consent if they to collect, use, or share person data belonging to children under the age of 13. We follow this law, and do not market the service to children under the age of 13. We trust social authentication services such as Facebook to also abide by this law, but we cannot control what information children may volunteer through those services when engaging with this service.
Cookies
As with most other websites, data is sometimes collected with session-tracking browser cookies. A cookie is a small chunk of data stored on your computer which collects basic information about your location, your IP address, your usage of the site, and the technology you are using to visit the site, and relays it to our automated data collection tools. These cookies stop tracking or transmitting data when you exit the site.
Links
We sometimes link out to other websites or applications. We are not responsible for the privacy policies or any other practices or terms of any other services we link to. This privacy policy applies only to The Interactive.
Disclosure when required by law
The Interactive and Whither Media, LLC may be required to disclose data we have collected or accessed — either or both that which we gather automatically through cookies or log files, or that which you volunteer through third-parties and registration — to legal authorities when required by law to comply with a current judicial proceeding or court order.
Security Measures
We use standard security measures to protect your data, but no security measures are perfect and we cannot guarantee that your data will not be compromised. That said, the majority of the data we access is stored with third parties such as Google or Facebook. In those cases, its security is not our responsibility.
